Good hygiene warning for winter flu
29 Sep 2011
Health professionals in the North East are urging good hygiene for protection against the spread of flu.
The aim of the campaign - Catch It, Bin It, Kill It - is to help prevent flu viruses getting around and experts say the message is especially vital in winter.
Tissues are important to slow the spread of a virus, and when you cough and sneeze, make sure you cover your nose. Then get rid of the tissue as as you can afterwards, and wash your hands.
That's the message from Newcastle and North Tyneside Primary Care Trusts.
The simple rules of the campaign are the most important actions sufferers can take to stop the spread, said Dr Meng Khaw, joint director of public health for the trusts.
He added: "We all have an important role in preventing ourselves, our families and others from spreading germs, which is why this campaign is so important to practice good hygiene."
