Fire devastates kitchen company

A kitchen supplies company in Yorkshire has been left devastated after a blaze broke out at its warehouse in the early hours of Monday morning.

Firefighters from Hunslet, Leeds, Morley and Garforth were all called to the scene and reportedly had to use jets and an aerial appliance to get the fire at the Leeds Kitchen Warehouse on Millshaw Industrial Estate near Cottingley under control.

Elland Road was even closed off while crews battled the blaze and attempted to stop it spreading to other nearby buildings and the firefighters had to spend time damping down the building once the flames themselves had been extinguished.

The firm's owner, Craig Anderson, said that "every mortal thing" in the warehouse had been destroyed and that he would effectively be out of business for "a couple of weeks" but he reassured customers that all orders will still be fulfilled.

Each commercial property in England and Wales must have a 'suitable and sufficient' fire risk assessment done under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and if it does not, the Responsible Person can get a two-year jail sentence or unlimited fine.
