Cautionary Note
Recent court cases dealing with fires involving grease extract systems have included instances where property occupiers have thought their grease extract systems had been fully cleaned only to find, usually as a result of a fire, that grease deposits had only been partially removed from the system. This has resulted in Property Insurers refuting claims on grounds that fire hazardous grease deposits had not been removed in compliance with the legislation and/or their Insurance warranties. Now, Insurers are demanding that deep cleaning should be carried out in accordance with the Heating and Ventilating Contractors' Association’s Industry Standard of Excellence TR19 and only contractors who can comply with this specification should be retained.
