Property Insurers underline penalties for non-compliance

A growing number of Property Insurance companies including majors like Aviva, Zurich, Liverpool Victoria and AXA have now inserted conditions in their policies making it clear that any claims for loss or damage arising from a fire in uncleaned, or only partially cleaned, grease extract systems will be denied.  Typical wording is now embodied in policies as a condition precedent to liability is:-

All extraction systems including flues, canopy hoods, extraction motors, fans and the entire length of any ducting shall be cleaned.

In simple terms, if a fire was to occur in uncleaned or only partially cleaned grease extract ductwork, whether or not the premises’ owner or manager thought it was being cleaned, claims for damages or loss would be denied.

This again underlines the short sightedness of some premises owners or managers to cut costs by not commissioning a fully compliant extract duct system cleaning service.

Only a fully compliant cleaning service such as provided by Indepth Hygiene Services will ensure that the property is meeting the requirements of the policy and is therefore fully insured.
