| Guide to Cleanliness of Ventilation Systems |
|
With kind permission of the Heating & Ventilating Contractors Association (HVAC), The British
Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) have reproduced an extract of TR19 'Guide to Good
Practice - Internal Cleanliness of Ventilation Systems'. Section 7 deals specifically with
the standards of cleaning for grease extract ventilation systems to eliminate fire hazards.

The BIFM has highlighted the introduction of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order to
make their members aware of the implications for the management of facilities, particularly
in those buildings where there is a catering facility. Grease from the cooking operation
accumulates in the extract ventilation system and presents a real fire hazard for the
building and building occupants unless removed.
